Kellogg Elementry

On Wednesday, Oct. 29th, I visited Kellogg Elementary in Huntington, WV. This "21st Century" model school was absolutely mind blowing. Of course, I have seen the things that they use in their school before, but damn, I wasn't using these things in Kindergarten! I've just started using them for the first time, some of them not at all, and I am a sophomore in COLLEGE! Technology has come so far and the way that they have set this school up around technology will create SUPER STUDENTS. I mean, seriously, if my fellow classmates and I had this kind of technology when we were first beginning our education, we would have been a bunch of GUINNESS'S!
I do think that there is a downfall to the "model school" though. If the schools that these students are going to be attending are not dissected very soon to compete with the elementary school, then the students are going to be severely deprived and well... what will become of their education then?

I think that the technology is cool, and it is helpful. But if a student wants to learn they will learn, if they want to slack they will slack. Technology does not control that. It comes down to the teachers and students, not the computers.

I agree with you totally. If I would have had this kind of technology when I was in 1st grade I would know a lot more ways to learn

Technology is crazy now I can't even keep up with it...once I'm an older teacher I have no idea how I will.

I think that if they go into schools that are not "Model" schools that they can only inspire good in the teachers and other students they join. I look forward to watching the next generation and what this 21st Century learning has in store for the future

yes, i do think that these students will be better students, but remember that with everything that these students are given, they may not work as hard in school as they get older.

I'm also jealous we had to sit through boring classes when younger. Hopefully the next generation doesn't pass us up too soon.

I agree that some technology will help some students focus but some students who just like to goof off need more than just technology

I love the new technology and methods used in teaching, but I honestly think they're value in education is somewhat overrated. I've done very well all through my school years and never had 1/8 the amenities of the Model School.

Yes, we would def. be better off today if we would have started learning this way to begin with. Kellogg was awesome, the little kids know more about techology then we do! Hopefully, it will advance into high schools so the students can continue to learn in this way.

I too wish we would have had this technology when we were younger. Since I didn't grow up with it, I'm technology challenged, and it makes me really worried that I won't be able to teach kids with it.

I think it's amazing too. But I agree with you, I feel really bad for the kids on the other side of the school. I also feel bad for the kids that don't get this kind of education and will never get this kind of education. I think we need to make sure that in the future, more kids have these opportunities.

I agree with what applegate. Education should not completely be revolved around technology. Technology should be used to emphasize learning and make the lesson more engaging.

I was actually focused a lot during my school years on learning. I did most of the education based events and classes. Though I always felt a little behind cause I wasn't constantly trying in some classes cause they seemed too easy. If we had had technology like this school had, it would've been easy to get a great deal ahead and still be learning extra stuff rather then being bored.
